FCC move to curtail teachers` contracts condemned.

LAHORE -- Students and academics have expressed concern over the Forman Christian College`s action of curtailing the service contracts of two renowned educationists.

Teaching physics and mathematics, Pervez Hoodbhoy`s contract with FCC expires in 2022 while history teacher Ammar Ali Jan`s contract is due to end during the current year.

Recently, the FCC administration revised its contractual policy and reduced the three years service contract of Mr Hoodbhoy to one without assigning any reason whereas Mr Ali Jan did not accept the new arrangement and resigned.

The Progressive Students Collective, a students organisation raising voice for the restoration of student unions, termed it a `step against critical thinking and academic freedom in Pakistan. Both the academics are well known and highly respected by student and academic circles for their ideas and approach to make students think critically,` it said.

In their tweets, a number of known academics said they did not expect such a move from the FCC.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Hoodbhoy said he was notaware of the reasons for the revision of his contract.

`Right now, I am considering whether to continue with the FCC,` he said.
