Farmers for action against sugar mafia.

LAHORE -- Farmers have demanded action against the so-called sugar mafia and refund of the amount the millers allegedly fleeced from farmers and end-consumers.

At a joint press conference here on Thursday, Pakistan Kissan Ittehad President Khalid Mahmood Khokhar and All-Pakistan Kissan Foundation Chairman Syed Mehmoodul Haq Bukhari urged Prime Minister Imran Khan that exposing the mafia is not enough and he should rather penalise them as inaction would embolden the 'wrongdoers.'

Welcoming the sugar commission report, they lamented that the mafia had been benefiting from both sides in the name of farmers, seeking subsidy from the government and selling the sweetener at higher prices. They demanded that the money exploited by the millers must be paid back to farmers and end-consumers.

They demanded that the government also ensure sugarcane price to growers as per sucrose recovery rate mentioned in the commission's report.
