LAHORE -- Locusts and their eggs should be destroyed immediately and the government should take practical steps in this regard instead of making claims.
This was demanded by Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee during a video link meeting here on Tuesday.
The meeting said that the locust attack last year had destroyed standing crops over millions of acres and crops and trees worth billions of rupees as the government stood like a silent spectator.
The meeting, chaired by Saima Zia, observed that the locust eggs had started hatching, giving sleepless nights to farmers as the government was not taking the situation seriously. It sought immediate steps to destroy the eggs.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 30 farmers organisations from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Punjab.It reviewed the damage caused to small landowners and farmers by Covid-19 and locust attacks, and demanded the government compensate the affected farmers.
