Faizan stuns Qadir to advance.

KARACHI -- Wildcard Faizan Khan displayed scintillating performance while disposing of better player M. Abdul Qadir in the fully stretched battle to reach the second round of the 13th DG Rangers Sindh Squash Championship at Rangers Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Friday.

Faizan came from the jaws of defeat to whip his opponent 11-13, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-2; in the longest match of first round that lasted 49-minutes. He is drawn to meet sixth seed Zahir Shah in the next round on Saturday. The latter has got a bye in the first round.

Waqar Mehboob and sibling Waqas also advanced after registering emphatic victories over their respective opponents. The former gets the better of Mohammad Farhan 9-11, 11-2, 11-2, 11-3 while the latter romped home straight 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 over England-based Pakistani Abdul Hadi Jan Khan.

Other players who returned victorious in their first round matches includes Noor Zaman, Saad Abdullah, Mohammad Farhan Hashmi, Salman Saleem and Naveed Rehman.

Top eight seeds have got a bye in the first round. They are 1-Tayyab Aslam, 2-Asim Khan, 3-Ammad Fareed, 4-Farhan Zaman, 5-Israr Ahmed, 6-Zahir Shah, 7-Danish Atlas Khan...
