Faculty members vow to work for Pims patients' welfare.

ISLAMABAD -- Faculty members of Quaid-i-Azam Postgraduate Medical College (QPGMC) have decided to play their role for the welfare of patients of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims).

The decision was made during first meeting of general body of specialist council which was previously headed by Prof Sami J. Khan but became dysfunctional after his retirement in 2008.

The meeting was attended by Pims Dean Prof Rizwan Taj, Federal Medical College (FMC) Principal Prof Amjad Chaudhry along with other senior professors, associate professors, assistant professors and senior registrars.

Prof Amjad Chaudry informed participants that Specialist Council was registered representative body of all specialists working at Pims and Prof. Sami J khan was its previous President.

Prof. Rana Imran Sikander highlighted different issues pertaining to services of specialists and their practical as well as legal solution without creating disharmony amongst different cadres of doctors working at Pims.

He emphasised that QPGMC to be revived which should be affiliated with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU), headed by a Dean of basic pay scale (BPS) 21.

He also stated that post of FMC principal should be upgraded to BPS 21 and promotion channel of teaching faculty should be towards posts of Dean and Principal FMC instead of Executive Director (ED).

He also suggested that administrative cadre to be brought at par with teaching and clinical cadre by incorporating Level III qualification for their promotion in BPS 20 and above instead of Level II as is for teaching and clinical cadres.
