Edwardes College teachers want PHC's decision enforced.

PESHAWAR -- Some senior faculty members of Edwardes College Peshawar have demanded of the government to implement the decision of Peshawar High Court with regard to declaring the college a nationalised and autonomous institute.

Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the teachers demanded proper audit of the college funds and impartial inquiry into financial and administrative irregularities in the college.

Led by Dr Gulzar Jalal, the teachers demanded of the authorities to terminate the college's principal forthwith and initiate an inquiry in that regard. They demanded of the authorities to convene a meeting of Board of Governors of the college to sort out the issue in the light of the judgment of Peshawar High Court.

'In view of privately managed schools and colleges regulation 1972 and the notification dated January 10, 1974, the status of the Edwardes College had already been declared to be a nationalised institution with its BoG headed by the governor of the province. The regulation was in turn accorded due protection by Article 269 of Constitution,' said Dr Gulzar.
