EDITORIAL'S Note.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was in Washington this July for his first one to one talk with US President Donald Trump after assuming office in Islamabad last August. The maiden visit was meant to mend relationship between Pakistan and the US facing the resounding challenges especially the mist of mistrust between Washington and Islamabad on various issues including Afghanistan and Taliban. Early this year, President Trump accused Pakistan of "lies and deceit". The visit was considered as success from all quarters both in US and Pakistan.

Apart from meeting several congressional leaders at the Capitol Hill, Prime Minister Khan addressed important Think Tanks, gave interviews to the largest media outlets and made headlines especially with his first public speaking engagement with the Pakistani diaspora living in US. During the visit one of the most important success apart from the others was the call by President Trump to mediate between Pakistan and India on Kashmir issue, which obviously was denied by the Indian authorities. There was also a clear message from Trump administration for the efforts of Pakistani side for the increasing efforts to put pressure on Taliban to sit on the Table.

This was also meant for the incumbent government in Islamabad to diversify its relations with the world powers including giving a much-needed foreign policy booster. The current focus of the Trump Administration focus has remained largely towards the crises in Latin America, Middle East region. The South Asian region took headlines when in February this year when India responded to the deadly Pulwama attack with cross border air strikes wherein Pakistan shoot down an Indian jet and captured an Indian pilot. The two nuclear rivals were called by international community for restrain.

The role of mediation between Pakistan and India on Kashmir and other outstanding disputes between the two South Asian rivals is a welcome development. However, Pakistan need to remain caution and careful in this offer as well. Apart from Kashmir, Pakistan is also eager to resolve the Afghan crisis and the US Troops withdrawal scenario. Although several encouraging developments took place in pushing the talks between US, Taliban and Pakistan however the entire scenario is becoming more complicated with presence and involvement of the other regional countries as well.
