EDITOR's Note.

Since the deadly Easter Sunday, this November Sri Lanka had its Presidential Elections wherein former defense minister Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been elected as the country's new President. The outgoing President Maithripala Sirisena has completed his tumultuous term marred with several internal and external challenges including rise of divide especially after the Easter bombing including ethnic reconciliation, and economic progress to name a few.

Although the outgoing President Sirisena opted not to compete for the elections however his party put its weight behind the candidacy of Gotabaya. Over the years the country has faced civil war and internal conflicts with loss of precious lives. It was during the term of incumbent President's Brother Mahinda Rajapaksa, when the civil war in Sri Lanka was crushed. It was during when President Gotabaya was defense minister of the country.

He monitored the operation that led to end to the civil war in the country. While there was end to the civil war, then President Mahinda made sure to provide financial support for postwar reconstruction and reconciliation process in the country. It was also during the term of President Mahinda Rajapaksa that the country came out of its economic challenges leading to thriving economy with huge economic foreign investment in the country along with visits of larger number of tourists reflecting the rise of stability and security across the country. He is also now leading the country as Prime Minister of the country creating new dimensions for peace and prosperity of the country hence building on his presidency in the last term in office.

Both President and Prime Minister will be facing the daunting task of cementing the country's fabric together especially after the Easter Sunday bombing which has made clear that the fault lines are still existing that might be used to derail the peace and reconciliation process in the country. Sri Lankans are resilient nation despite challenges and threats to the country's future, people of the country will be able to fight back and uplift the country to a prosperous future together. This November Kartarpur Corridor, termed as peace corridor, between two nuclear armed South Asian rivals, has finally opened for the Sikh pilgrim from across the world.
