ECP says open proceedings in PTI foreign funding case can't be held.

ISLAMABAD -- The petitioner in foreign funding case against the ruling party is allegedly trying to hinder proceedings of the Scrutiny Committee by asking the same questions already discussed in the committee.

The sources within the committee told The Nation that proceedings of the committee were frequently disturbed by the petitioner and his lawyer by repeating the already discussed questions in meeting of the committee. The sources further revealed that committee was doing its best and working transparently on merit; however the petitioner, through media talks, was portraying a bad image of the committee which was completely against the ground reality, said sources.

It must be noted that petitioner Akbar S Baber has frequently termed the Scrutiny Committee helpless and has warned to take the matter into the apex court if the committee failed to announce its verdict on merit.

The petitioner and the opposition parties have been demanding the Commission to hold precedings of the committee in front of the media and public in order to avoid any doubts on the status of the committee. Prime Minister Imran Khan, following demands by the opposition parties, has also offered open proceedings of the committee in order to let the people know who was right and who was wrong.

On the other hand, ECP in its recent statement has announced that the Scrutiny Committee cannot hold its proceedings in public as it can adversely affect working of the committee.

The Commission through its statement clarified that hearings of the committee have already been held in front of media and other concerned authorities.
