ECP not seeking guidance from Constitution but taking directions from somewhere else: Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

ISLAMABAD -- Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday have appeared before Supreme Court of Pakistan in local bodies election case. The court has given one week time to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for presenting date for holding for local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. The court has also summoned the schedule of LB elections in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. The court remarked that the chief election commissioner should hold meeting and review the matter of election schedule and report comprising meeting minutes should be presented in the court on 4th February. Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the ECP is not seeking guidance from the Constitution but taking directions from somewhere else, adding that it looks that democracy is not priority now.

During the hearing, the CEC told that the dissolution of local bodies departments in Punjab was an unconstitutional move over which Justice Qazi Faez Isa asked about the action against the provincial authorities. The case was...
