KOHAT -- A modern driving licence unit started functioning in tribal subdivision of Darra Adamkhel on Tuesday.

DSP Sanobar Shah, chief traffic warden Arab Jan and other officials inaugurated the unit during a ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah said the unit was equipped with uninterrupted power supply facility.

He said staff, including training instructors, had been hired to impart driving skills and issue learners' permits and driving licences within shortest possible time. He said the district police officer had approved the unit and allocated funds for it.

DSP Shah said the tribesmen would be encouraged to have driving licences because following the former Fata's merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa driving vehicles without licence was forbidden.

The police officer said that dozens of people had applied for the learner's permits on the very first day of the launch of the driving licence office.
