Drivers torch two rickshaws to vent anger over rise in fuel prices.

DADU -- Enraged drivers set ablaze two rickshaws during a demonstration in Nawabshah against the latest extraordinary rise in prices of petroleum products as protests continue in Dadu, Mehar, Qambar, Nasirabad, Shahdadkot and Jamshoro against the back-breaking hike in fuel price.

In Nawabshah, several rickshaw drivers staged protest outside local press club against unprecedented increase in fuel prices. During the protest, two dejected drivers set their vehicles on fire and said the federal government had snatched their jobs by making petrol literally inaccessible to them, they said.

'Today, we have torched two rickshaws but tomorrow, we will burn our children and later we will commit self-immolation,' warned the drivers.

People took to the streets in Dadu and Mehar towns. They raised slogans against the coalition government and said its cruel policies had left them no other recourse but to commit suicide.

In Qambar, the protesters took out a procession against record inflation and said the federal government's actions would cause people to starve to death.

In Shahdadkot and Jamshoro, rickshaw owners gathered outside press clubs and chanted slogans against the federal government, which they said had snatched even the last morsel of bread from the poor.

Magsi wants judiciary to take notice of rise in fuel prices Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi said that masses could not even have two square meals a day thanks to wrong economic policies of rulers. Rulers had looted this country and destroyed its economy to punish people, he said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He urged judiciary to take notice of raise in fuel price which had been result of wrong economic policy. People had lost purchasing power and prices of edibles and other commodities had gone through the roof, he said.

He said that on the one hand unemployment was increasing in the country and on the other hand rulers were increasing prices of fuel and electricity which would directly affect industrial production.

He said the resulting situation would force people to commit suicide or resort to crime. Judiciary must take notice of such decisions which would directly and indirectly affect masses, he said and warned that such decisions would cause instability hence be rescinded.

He said that unnecessary expenditures of rulers should be cut and looted wealth lying in offshore accounts should be brought back to improve economy. People should not be punished for rulers'...
