Drive planned against use of novel tobacco.

BAHAWALPUR -- The South Punjab Secretariat has decided to launch a 'vigorous' awareness campaign against the use of novel tobacco by the young generation.

The focus of this campaign will be schools, colleges and universities in three divisions of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Mr Saqib Zafar here on Wednesday.

According to Saqib Zafar, the meeting decided to finalise recommendations asking the government to enact a law to impose a ban on the use of novel tobacco, launch an awareness campaign in the educational institutions and chalk out a programme to launch a crackdown on those involved in its illegal sale in the open market.

The ACS further noted that the use of tobacco among the new generation was rapidly going up as a fashion.
