Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja to be appointed as new Chief Election Commissioner.

ISLAMABAD -- Dr. Sikandar Sultan Raja will be appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner.

A consensus decision to this effect was taken at the meeting of parliamentary committee on appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan in Islamabad on Tuesday.

The meeting also agreed to appoint Nisar Durrani as member of Election Commission from Sindh and Shah Muhammad Jatoi as its member from Balochistan. The name nominates for the appointment of CEC was proposed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and names nominated for the appointment of members of ECP from Sindh and Balochistan were proposed by Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting of the committee was chaired by Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mazari and was attended by Defense Minister Parvez Khan Khattak, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Azam Khan Swati, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Engineer Ali Muhammad Khan, Parliamentary Kashmir Committee Chairman Syed Fakhar Imam, Senior PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan, senior PML-N leader Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Dr. Nisar Ahmed Cheema, Pakistan People's Party senior leader and former prime minister Raja Parvez Ashraf, Senator Dr. Sikandar Mandhro, Ms. Shahida Akhtar Ali and Senator Naseebullah Bazai.

While announcing the decision Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari said it is a matter of great satisfaction that the parliament settled the matter with consensus after 13 meetings of the committee.
