Dist council forces free meal service to suspend temporarily.

GUJRAT -- Local authorities removed banners of a free meal service run by a local politician from a dedicated corner of the district council lawns on Jail Chowk on Tuesday.

The service was being run by PML-N leader Haji Aurangzaib Butt for almost four years. The district council staff removed three publicity boards inscribed with 'Zaib Free Dasterkhwan' upon which a manager of the service arrived at the scene and protested against the act.

However, the staff told him that they had been ordered by the district council administration to do so. The free meal service was suspended temporarily and the management announced to resume it at another spot.

In 2015, the then deputy commissioner had dedicated a corner on the district council lawns for the Zaib Free Meal Service that was frequented by labourers, students, attendants of patients from various hospitals and those visiting the district courts.

Official sources said that the administration had been under political pressure to remove the free meal service from the spot, but the authorities concerned had decided to only remove the boards carrying the name of PML-N's Butt so that...
