Dir jirga resolves decades-old property dispute.

LOWER DIR -- A jirga of political leaders and elders on Friday succeeded to resolve a decades' old property dispute between the people of Stanadar and Malikanan Ghara villages.

The jirga was also attended by officials of the district administration, revenue department and elders of different tribes.

According to the jirga decision, the disputed lands would be divided between the parties in the presence of district administration officials and jirga members.

The property ownership case had been in the courts since 1972 and the dispute had claimed several precious lives so far.

The Dir Qaumi Jirga headed by former MNA Sahibzada Yaqub Khan expedited its efforts to resolve the issue after the villagers resisted the district administration's efforts to divide the lands among the rivals a few days ago.

A youth from Shatai Dara area was also killed when police responded with tear gas shelling.

Both the parties agreed to the jirga conditions after which its members held several sittings with them. In this regard, a function was held at the hujra of Malik Farooq Iqbal at Khaima, which was addressed by Sahibzada Yaqub Khan, additional deputy commissioner Abdul Wali Khan and others.
