Dir DEO's post vacant for months.

LOWER DIR -- The post of the district education officer (male) has been lying vacant for several months here, complained local president of the Insaf Teachers' Association Tahir Altaf Sarhadi on Monday.

He told reporters at the Timergara Press Club here that the DEO's vacancy caused problems for teachers in the district. Mr Sarhadi said the education transferred the last DEO several months ago but hadn't appointed his successor.

'The office of the DEO (male) is being managed by a junior office on ad hoc basis without having powers to make important financial and administrative decisions,' he said.

The ITA president also complained that the teachers of primary schools in Adenzai subdivision hadn't been paid salary for a long time due to a tussle between two SDOs.

He said the government and high-ups of the education department should take notice of the matter for the payment of withheld salary to teachers.

Teachers also complain of salary delay

Mr Sarhadi said a competent education officer, Miftahuddin, belonged to Lower Dir but was working as the DEO in Chitral district, so he should be immediately transferred to Dir.

He warned that if demands weren't met, a protest would be staged in front of the deputy commissioner's offices. The ITA president demanded the provision of free textbooks to schools without delay to prevent learning losses.
