APROPOS the news 'Sindh government allows normal funeral rites of Covid-19 patients with precautions' (May 20). The passing of dear ones is always painful under any circumstances. But the issue becomes more agonising when the bereaved family members are refused to be handed over the mortal remains of their loved ones for whatever reason.

In Muslim societies and also the rest of the world, funerals are important religious, social and cultural occasions. The living owe the dead dignified last rites and burial. Honouring the dead is our religious and cultural responsibility.
