GUJRAT -- The Pubbi area between Kharian and Sara-i-Alamgir has become a major attraction for housing schemes whereas the local authorities have warned the citizens against purchasing or investing in at least 22 unapproved colonies across the district.

The availability of a huge chunk of land along both sides of GT Road between two neighbouring cities - Kharian and Sara-i-Alamgir of Gujrat district - has prompted developers to acquire swathes of acres at very cheap rates prior to announcing the formal launching of their respective projects, says an administrative official in the land revenue department.

Adding he says now most of the housing schemes in this particular area have not yet been approved by the respective government authorities but the developers have started sale of plots without development of infrastructure.

Two of the main housing schemes locating near Sara-i-Alamgir, he says, have been owned by two close kin of real estate tycoon Malik Riaz [Malik Shahid said to be his brother and a maternal grandson Bilal Malik].

It is learnt that the Metro City owned by Bilal Malik has been given provisional approval by the district administration and the Sara-i-Alamgir Municipal Committee has issued no objection certificate to it whereas Malik Riaz also backed the scheme through his video message on social media recently.
