Departments asked to devise contingency plan for Murree.

RAWALPINDI -- Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Tuesday directed all departments to ensure implementation of the decision by Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench regarding the Murree tragedy.

He said that the Murree contingency plan should not only be devised for winter, but for summer too considering problems of land sliding amid monsoon.

In the review meeting held at the Commissioner's Office Rawalpindi regarding implementation of court orders, the commissioner constituted a committee under the supervision of ADC revenue.

Assistant commissioner Murree, Murree Municipal Corporation chief officer and executive engineer (highway) being members of this committee will be responsible for preventing construction of illegal buildings.

In the first phase, they will identify illegal buildings and after giving notices, their data will be forwarded to the anti-corruption department and in the final phase they will be demolished.

He said that Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) should build its own permanent office and godown in Murree where all necessary things should be stored. In this regard, the ADC should identify a suitable place for them within one week.

Mr Chatha said that all departments under the supervision of the ADC should urgently submit their list of requirements related to disaster management to PDMA.

To complete the master plan of Murree, he directed the director (local government) to write to his secretary to complete it immediately.
