Death toll from Covid-19 reaches 234.

PESHAWAR -- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's death toll from novel coronavirus (Covid-19) reached 234 on Saturday as 13 more residents died of the virus amid health minister Taimur Khan Jhagra's claim that the countrywide death rate is stable but the cases will continue to rise.

The health department's daily report on Covid-19 revealed that most of the new deaths were reported in Peshawar district (seven), while Charsadda, Khyber, Mardan, Swat, Malakand and Abbottabad districts recorded one fatality from coronavirus each.

Until now, Covid-19 has claimed 141 lives in the provincial capital.

According to the report, the province recorded 182 new confirmed cases, which its tally of patients to 4,509, while recoveries totalled 1,086 after the clearance of 53 more patients.

Peshawar recorded the highest number of fresh cases (83), which took its tally of active patients to 1,810, the highest in the province.

Twenty-two new cases were reported in Swat, 14 in Malakand, 10 in Khyber, seven in Swabi and six in Mardan.

The report said seven confirmed cases were reported in the Torkham quarantine centre.

As of Saturday, the country's case fatality rate was 2.24 per cent with KP's reaching 5.18 per cent, the highest among provinces.

Peshawar's CFR was 7.79 per cent, the highest in any city of the country.

Meanwhile, health minister Taimur Khan Jhagra told a presser that the country's Covid-19 death rate was stable at the moment but the number of cases would continue to rise.

Accompanied by the representatives of the Provincial Doctors 'Association, Young Doctors Association and Insaf Doctors' Forum, he said the government held health professionals in high esteem as they were engaged in the battle against Covid-19 as front line fighters.

'The presence of representatives of healthcare professionals gives out a message that we are united in these trying times and will continue our joint effort to further strengthen our healthcare system,' he said.
