Death penalty awarded in murder case.

MANSEHRA -- A model court on Tuesday awarded death sentence and Rs0.5 million fine to a resident after convicting him for killing a man and injuring another.

Convict Nisar Ahmad had gunned down Mohammad Banaras and injured Asad Qazzafi Khan in Balakot area a years ago.

Judge Wajid Ali Khan declared that the convict would be 'hanged by the neck till declared dead.'

He, however, said his order needed confirmation by the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court.

The verdict read that Rs0.5 million fine would be given away to the heirs of the deceased and if the convict didn't pay fine, he would serve jail term for six more months.

The convict was awarded life imprisonment by the district and session judge but he had challenged it in the Peshawar High Court's Abbottabad Circuit Bench, which referred the petition to the model court for decision.
