DCs asked to keep check on prices of commodities.

RAWALPINDI -- Commissioner Saqib Manan on Thursday directed deputy commissioners of all six districts of the division to maintain close liaison with all stakeholders at the district and tehsil levels in order to keep a check on prices of essential commodities.

He also asked them to establish Sunday bazaars, adding that deputy commissioner counters should be made functional in all grocery stores.He said that there was dire need to ensure participation of market committee members and management officers in the bidding process of edibles in the main fruit and vegetable market.

He said that a meeting of the district price control committee would be called at least twice a month to monitor the price. He expressed these views while presiding over the Price Control Committee meeting at the Commissioner's Office.In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Shoaib Ali, Director Agriculture Shahid Bukhari and other officials of district Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang and Murree participated through video link.

The commissioner further said that even though all products have been affected due to the increase in global prices, we are trying our best not to allow anyone to take undue advantage of this situation.

He said no leniency should be given to those who created artificial inflation through hoarding and relief should be provided to the people, special counters should be set up in all stores so people will get edibles at a low price.He said that the quality of edibles must be ensured.
