Dasti again in headlines for no good reason.

MUZAFFARGARH -- The Shah Jamal police have registered a case against former MNA Jamshed Dasti and his supporters for trying to close canal gates at a headworks which could have resulted in damage to canal banks.

According to the FIR, Dasti with some other people jumped into Muzaffargarh canal to search and rescue Aqib Pehlwan, who went missing in the water while bathing there.

Irrigation Sub-Division Officer (SDO) Nauman Baig alleged that Dasti and his men actually tried to close the head regulator gates of RD 290. This would have blocked water flow resulting in the overflowing of water and breaching of banks.

He said he informed the police on 15 and sent his officials to control the situation. The police registered a case under sections 186/353 of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Canal and Drainage Amendment Act of 2016 against Dasti and 200 other people.

The application was sent to police by the office of canal magistrate sub-division office.

Dasti, however, alleged that his voter, Aqib Pehlwan, went missing in the canal and he asked Rescue 1122 divers to rescue him but in vain. Later, he with his fellows had to launch a search operation. He said allegations regarding the closure of the gates were baseless.

After a long time, Dasti is again in the spotlight when he opened the gates of the canal in 2017 and released water to other channels. Though he was arrested under terrorism charges, he was able to secure bail.
