Cup race tops horseracing action in Lahore today.

LAHORE -- A six-event card, featuring a cup race, will be gone through during the eighth running of the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The feature event, the Amigo Cup, a class VII Division I and II handicap race to be contested over 1,100 metres, has nine runners. All of them have won two or more races except filly Costa Rica, who is still searching for a maiden triumph after 15 outings.

This daughter of Dunhill Star has disappointed her connections so far who have been hoping she might prove a star filly living up to her fine breeding. She had been placed second nine times failing to touch the winning post first.

On recent time form and performance at the course Costa Rica's nearest rivals could be Salam-e-Lahore, and Rashk-e-Qamar.

The supporting event, the Bhalwal Plate Class VII Division III and IV to be contested over 1,100 metres, has the largest field of 14 runners. Nothing could be predicted in such an event in which they are tightly handicapped but on form three look to be the real contenders - Safdar Princess, Believe Me and User. The first two named have won two or more races while User, a fine pedigree animal, is still yet open the account. Any of them could emerge victorious on Sunday.

The other four races on the card have three or more chance horses in to present some interesting and closely contested finishes.

The first race will be held at 1.30pm.
