CTD launches probe into attack on Rangers in Liaquatabad.

KARACHI -- Police's Counter-Terrorism Department registered on Saturday a case against five unknown suspects who attacked a Rangers van during distribution of cash among people under the government's Ehsaas programme at a school in Liaquatabad No 10, which claimed the life of a young man and injured eight others, including a Rangers soldier, on Friday.

The case has been registered on terrorism and murder charges on behalf of the state through Abid Ali Shah, additional SHO of the Model police station of Liaquatabad. According to the FIR, five unknown terrorists riding motorbikes attacked the paramilitary force with a hand grenade from a flyover to spread terror and chaos in Sindh, particularly in Karachi.

The complainant in his statement before the CTD claimed that he was on patrolling duty in his mobile van when he saw two suspects on a motorbike while three others were also standing there on other bikes. He added that when they threw something that triggered explosion near the Rangers mobile, he chased the suspects and an exchange of fire took place between the policemen and the suspects. However, they escaped 'due to the rush of people'.

The complainant said he collected seven spent bullet casings fired from a 30-bore pistol by the suspects while the police also fired six bullets from a 9mm pistol and an SMG.
