Cricket memories.

I HAVE been following Pakistan cricket for a long time. I do not remember exactly what year it was, but I have vivid memories of watching a Test match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Club ground along with my father. The home side was facing the visiting West Indians, and both of us were sitting very close to the boundary rope.

It was the late 1950s and whenever West Indian fast bowler Charlie Griffith, the great that he was, used to come to his bowling mark, which was just a step inside the boundary, he used to exchange a few words with me. I was not even 10 at the time, and I remember how happy his demeanour made me.

Over the years, cricket has transformed a lot. However, Test matches have sustained their aura that keeps people engaged. And my generation is not alone in this fascination. There is no dearth of youngsters who take keen interest in Test cricket and enjoy the excitement of a close contest even if a match ends...
