Covid-19 death toll reaches 245 as KP records 11 new fatalities.

PESHAWAR -- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday reported 11 new deaths due to coronavirus as the province-wide tally of the people dying of the infection reached 245, the highest number of fatalities due to the pandemic in any province of the country.

Among the fresh deaths, eight deceased belonged to Peshawar and one each to Mardan, Swat and Battagram, according to a daily situation report of Covid-19 released by health department.

The province also confirmed presence of the virus in 160 people, including four from the quarantine centres in Torkham Khyber tribal district, taking the total count of positive Covid-19 cases to 4,669.

The report said that the overall number of patients recovered from the ailment reached 1,126 as 40 more healed from the sickness in the province.

Peshawar now accounts for 149 deaths, the most number of deceased persons recorded by any district in the country. Swat has 21 deaths; Mardan 13; Nowshera, Abbottabad and Malakand six each; Swabi, Mansehra and Dir Lower five each; Kohat and Charsadda four each; Kurram three; and Bannu, Buner and Shangla have recorded two deaths each.

Peshawar division has the largest number of 161 deaths, Malakand 40, Mardan 18, Hazara 15, Kohat seven, Bannu two and Dera Ismail Khan division has reported one death due to the pandemic.

The provincial capital is also responsible for most of the confirmed cases as number of total positive cases has reached 1891 with new 81 patients in Peshawar, followed by Swat with 351 cases including new 16 cases and Mardan with 229 including seven freshly diagnosed cases.

Malakand has 237 cases, Buner 125, Dir Lower 123 and Dir Upper has 115 cases.

The rest of the districts are registering one and two cases on daily basis but Kohistan Upper and Kolai Palas stay virus-free so far.

As of Sunday, case fatality rate (CFR) in Pakistan was 2.16 per cent compared to 2.24 per cent recorded on Saturday. CFR in KP is 5.24 per cent compared to 5.18 per cent recorded a day before. It is still the highest in the country. In Peshawar, the CFR was 7.88 per cent compared to Saturday's 7.79, the highest in any city of the country.
