Covid-19 death toll reaches 194 in KP.

PESHAWAR -- With nine new deaths on Tuesday, the number of fatalities due to coronavirus reached 194 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Peshawar, the provincial capital, continued to recorded more deaths and confirmed cases.

KP recorded 194 deaths so far due to the infection amid reports that many people didn't bring their patients to hospitals and preferred to let them die in homes to be able to perform their funeral and burial ceremonies according to the cultural and religious traditions.

'In case of their hospital-based deaths, the patients are buried by the administration, prior to giving them bath and performance of funeral by limited people due to which people hesitate to contact the hospitals even if the patients have strong symptoms of Covid-19,' said doctors.

The report said that the patients, who passed away due to Covid-19, included five from Peshawar where death toll reached 119 while one each died in Charsadda, Mardan, Mansehra and Haripur.

875 people have recovered from the infection in the province

A total of 211 new persons tested positive for the infectious ailments, making the province-wide tally 3,499 with Peshawar recording 113 cases. Peshawar has now a total of 1,380 patients, the highest in the province.

Case Fatality Rate (CFR) in Pakistan is 2.26 per cent while in Peshawar it is 5.54 per cent. CFR in Peshawar is 8.62 per cent, the highest in any city of Pakistan.

Mardan accounted for 10 new cases and four each were reported from Abbottabad, Swat, Charsadda and Nowshera; three from Khyber and Battagram. Only two districts, Kohistan Lower and Kolai Palas, stay virus-free while the infection is more prevalent in highly populated districts of Peshawar, Mardan and Swat.

Peshawar is followed by Swat with 204 cases, Mardan with 202, Malakand with 168, Buner with 108, Dir Upper with 93, Dir Lower with 90, Nowshera with 77, Kohat with 69, Bannu with 60 and Charsadda with 59 cases, according to daily situation report of the health department.

Swat has so far recorded 14 deaths due to the virus, Mardan has 10 deaths, Nowshera six, Abbottabad five, Kohat and Dir Lower have four each and Malakand, Swabi and Kurram have recorded three deaths each. The report said that 19 more patients recovered from the sicknesses and were sent home from hospital. The number of total healed people reached 875 in the province.
