Court suspends MC's notification on stadium use.

OKARA -- The court of the senior civil judge has suspended the municipal committee's notification which had cancelled the permission granted to cricket, hockey, football and other sport associations to use the Municipal Committee (MC) Stadium, including its indoor halls, without any prior legal notice or information.

Gymkhana Cricket Club President Mian Muhammad Munir, the former manager of the national cricket team, MPA, MC chairman and current PML-N district president, had filed a case with the court of Senior Civil Judge Javid Iqbal Thethia against the Punjab government, deputy commissioner, MC administrator, chief officer and district sports officer over the notification issued by the MC cancelling the agreements with all sports clubs and associations. It said any sport activity at MC stadium would be held only after the permission from the district sports officer.

It is important to mention that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had signed an agreement with the MC in 2001 under which the Gymkhana Cricket Club (GCC) would take care of the MC Stadium regarding all field necessities except electricity connection and water supply.

On hearing the plaintiff's counsel Chaudhry Ghulam Mustafa Sadiq, the court suspended the MC letter until Feb 4 for further legal proceedings.
