Court seeks replies from govt, police on Raas' plea.

LAHORE -- The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought replies from the Punjab government and police on a petition of former provincial education minister Murad Raas challenging police cases and alleged harassment.

Raas through a counsel submitted that police registered 'illegal' cases against him and other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) at the behest of the government. He said police conducted raids at the residences of the party's leaders and caused harassment to their families.

The counsel asked the court to quash the FIRs for being unlawful and restrain police from harassing the petitioner and other leaders of the PTI.

Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar issued notices to the advocate general of Punjab and the DIG operations Lahore for their replies by June 20.

On a separate petition seeking constitution of a judicial commission on alleged police torture during May 25th long march of the PTI, Justice Dogar sought parawise comments from the government functionaries by June 30.
