Court reissues notice to Rangers man on plea to withdraw case against Dr Asim.

KARACHI -- An antiterrorism court on Saturday issued a notice to the director general of Sindh Rangers to ensure presence of a deputy superintendent of Rangers (DSR), who is complainant in an eight-year-old case pertaining to harbouring and treatment of terrorists at a private hospital.

Dr Asim Hussain, a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, and five others have been charged with treating and harbouring suspected terrorists, political militants and gangsters at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of Ziauddin Hospitals at the behest of some politicians.

Recently, the Sindh government moved an application seeking permission of the court to withdraw the case.

Others facing trial include PPP's Abdul Qadir Patel, MQM-P's Amir Khan, former Karachi mayor Wasim Akhtar and Rauf Siddiqui, PSP's president Anis Kaimkhani and Pasban leader Usman Moazzam.

ATC asks Rangers chief to ensure presence of complainant in court in terrorists treatment case

On Saturday, the ATC-II judge took up the application earlier moved by a special prosecutor seeking court's consent to allow the prosecution to withdraw the present case against the undertrial politicians in terms of the Sections 494 of the criminal procedure code read with Section 9-A(3)(III) of the Sindh Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Function and Power) ACT, 2009.
