Conference on paediatric surgery begins in Swat.

SWAT -- Health experts have said that there is a high need for raising awareness of paediatric issues among people for better care of the patients.

They were speaking at the three-day 30th International Conference on Paediatric Surgery, which kicked off in Saidu Medical College (SMC) here on Saturday. The conference is being attended by a number of surgeons from across the country and abroad.

Prof Dr Arif was the chief guest at the conference, attended by head of paediatric surgery unit at Saidu Teaching Hospital Dr Sadar Rahim, All Pakistan Paediatric Surgery Association president Prof Dr Ghulam Nabi, SMC principal Prof Dr Israrul Haq, paediatric surgeon Prof Shaukat Mehmood and others.

On the opening day, they discussed the importance of paediatric surgery and said the purpose of this conference was to raise awareness and ensure better care of the patients.

Experts call for better care of patients

'The number of paediatric surgeons is comparatively higher in other countries than Pakistan and medical students are expected to come and join this field,' the experts said and stressed the need for establishment of a paediatric hospital in Swat.
