SWABI -- Complete shutdown was observed by traders here in Zaida in protest against the police failure to take action against the driver whose negligence had resulted in death of two innocent students of a private school on the day when schools were closed amid second wave of coronavirus.

Scores of students were also injured in the accident.

The traders gathered in the main market of Zaida and chanted slogans against the police, district administration and the school administration.

The call for protest was given by Zaida Jirga to express solidarity with the bereaved families. The traders and jirga members called for closing the school and urged the administration to play its due role because it was failure of the school to hire such a reckless driver.

Seek action against van driver and school admin

They set a 10-day deadline for the administration to close down the school and intimate the jirga about the action. Afsar Ali, former Zaida UC nazim, said the driver of the bus was released two days after the incident because of flawed investigation by the police.

JUI-F district head Sirajur Rehman said soon after the accident the bus was handed over to the owner and the bereaved families were left to mourn. Zahir Yousafzai, general secretary of Zaida jirga said that punishment should be given to the bus driver.
