Commissioner to begin hearing objections to delimitations today.

RAWALPINDI -- Commissioner retired Capt Saqib Zafar will begin hearing objections to new delimitations in the Rawalpindi division starting today (Saturday).

The Punjab government intends to hold local government elections under the Local Government Act 2019 and has asked the province's 36 districts to carry out the delimitation of all tehsils in this regard.

Delimitation was carried out by revenue officials under the supervision of the deputy commissioner in light of existing rules. All the stakeholders were taken into confidence over the process and all the petitions filed were discussed in the petitioners' presence.

The commissioner will hear objections regarding Chakwal district on Saturday, Attock on Sunday, Rawalpindi on Monday and Jhelum on Tuesday. Afterwards, a report will be sent to Lahore for notification, which will be displayed in the respective deputy commissioners' offices on Nov 2.

'A final decision on delimitation will be taken by Nov 2 in the larger interest of the people of the areas to be able to hold local government elections in a free, fair and transparent manner,' Mr Zafar told Dawn.
