CM orders early appointment of 3,500 teachers in tribal districts.

PESHAWAR -- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Friday directed the elementary and secondary education department to complete the process to appoint 3,500 teachers to over 600 schools in the newly-merged tribal districts of the province before the start of the next academic year.

During a meeting with the lawmakers from merged districts and high-ups of the education department here, the chief minister also said tests should be held for the recruitment of teachers in their respective districts instead of the provincial capital to facilitate applicants.

He also expressed great concern about delay in the implementation of development schemes.

Mr Mahmood asked the education department to regularly conduct surprise visits to educational institutions in merged districts through independent monitoring units to ensure the provision of quality education to students.

He ordered the termination of teachers holding fake documents and absenting themselves from duty.

The chief minister asked the department to appoint competent district education officers and formulate a policy for the reshuffling of all clerical staff members, who have completed two years service in their current positions.

He ordered the relaxation of rules to upgrade schools and hire teachers and said once appointed, no posting and transfer of teachers would be entertained.

The officials told the meeting that the development schemes have been handed over to the provincial government during the current financial year in which substantial progress has been achieved in the ADP projects, Accelerated Implementation Plan and quick impact projects.

They said a total of Rs154.63 million had been utilised against the released budget of Rs477.56 million on 139 Annual Development Programme projects, while Rs7.686 billion had been allocated for 18 AIP development projects.

The officials said for the provision of basic infrastructure, teachers and other inputs in education facilities under the AIP, development of play areas in the schools, provision of free stationery, school bags, free text books, provision of furniture, construction of boundary walls and toilet blocks, providing drinking water facilities, repair of rooms, construction of additional class rooms...
