Clashes mar re-polling in two UCs of Hyderabad.

HYDERABAD -- Re-polling in two polling stations in this district was marred by clashes between supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Sunday. It was held for six seats in one polling station each of UCs 28 and 35.

The results of the two UCs in the January 15 LG elections were withheld after disturbances.

The re-polling was to be held for the seat of UC chairman and vice chairman and one seat of ward-1 general councillor and likewise voters were to cast votes for the seats of chairman and vice chairman UC-35 and one seat of ward-3 general councillor.

Both these UCs were located in Mir Sarfaraz Kalhoro town of the city taluka.

Clashes were reported in ward-I of UC-28 again today between supporters of PPP and PTI. The violence continued on and off in the area throughout the polling process. Police intervened in the areas to separate embattled supporters but they kept gathering in the area again to make the situation tense.

The result of the ward-1 general councillor was withheld at the combined polling station of UC-28 set up in the Govt Girls Primary School Razia Sultana on Jan 15. Nine panels of candidates for chairman/vice chairman slots were to contest the polls.

Then came merger of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and candidates of two parties boycotted the polls.

This left seven panels of chairman/vice chairman in field belonging to PTI, PPP Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), Tehreek-i-Allah-o-Akbar (TAA) and three independent panels.

There were a total of 2,652 registered male and female voters at this polling station.

Eight candidates were in the field for wad-1 general councillor seat belonging to same parties. The said polling station of in Phulelli was declared 'sensitive' again.

The situation remained normal in UC-35 during the re-polling. The result of polling station No. 5, Govt Training College for main Tilak Incline in UC-35 for the seat of chairman and vice chairman and ward-3 general councilor was also withheld.

Nine panels belonging to PPP, TAA, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan, Jamaat-i-Islami, PTI, TLP and independents for chairman/vice chairman were facing each other in this UC.
