City Zone police have succeeded in curbing crime: SP.

ISLAMABAD -- The City Zone police succeeded in curbing crime during the current year due to effective measures and a crackdown on criminal elements, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Aamir Khan Niazi.

Addressing a press conference at Rescue 15 on Tuesday, he said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan had directed effective crackdown on criminals.

'A comprehensive strategy was chalked out as per directions of the IGP to combat crime by Kohsar, Aabpara, Secretariat, Banigala, women and Bhara Kahu police which helped bring down the crime rate in these areas.'

The SP said 2,169 cases were reported in the zone and challans of 1,493 were submitted to courts. Out of the 3,885 people nominated in these cases, 3002 (77pc) were arrested.

He said 409 property-related cases were registered during the 11 months and challans of 169 cases were submitted to courts. A total of 307 of the 547 nominated accused were nabbed and recovery of more than Rs125.8 million was made from them.

Several criminals were held for possessing illegal weapons and involvement in drug peddling and bootlegging activities.
