Chakkis flour price fixed at Rs45 per kg: Wheat supply to grinding units restored after a week.

FAISALABAD -- After a protest by flour grinding units (Chakkis) and their pledge to sell flour at Rs45 per kg, the district food department has restored wheat supply to them after keeping it suspended for a week.

The owners of the grinding units staged a demonstration on Tuesday outside the food department office and demanded the restoration of the wheat supply.

They said they had been facing problems due to the indifference of the district administration that had suspended the supply without any justification.

They said flour grinding units were in a position to contribute to control the current flour crisis but the authorities seemed to be least interested in resolving the issue.

District administration held dialogues with the protesters and asked them to sell flour against Rs45 per kg in the open market.

The administration announced restoration of the wheat supply after being assured that flour would be provided at Rs45.

The grinding units demanded that their quota must be increased to five bags, which was accepted.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali said nobody would be allowed to fleece the public and flour would be available at the prices fixed by the government.

He said action would be taken against the Chakki owners if they sold flour against the fixed price.
