Captain, soldier martyred in North Waziristan attack.

NORTH WAZIRISTAN -- A captain and a soldier of the Pakist an Army embrace d martyrdom and four others suffered injuries in clashes with militants in two incident s in North Waziristan tribal district on Sunday.

Three terrorists, including their leader, were also 1(illed in the exchange of fire.

A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations, the army`s media affairs wing, confirmed the martyrdom of Captain Sabih and Sepoy Naveed.

It said one terrorist was also killed, while two soldiers were injured.

According to the ISPR statement, terroristsopened fire at a security forces` patrolling party.

The incident happened five kilometres southeast of Ghariom, a secluded area in North Waziristan adjacent to the South Waziristan tribal district.

Captain Sabih and Sepoy Naveed were martyred, while two soldiers received injuries during the encounter, the statement said. One terrorist was also killed, whose name could not be ascertained. Later during a search operation, a terrorist compound was found and cleared by security forces.

The incidents took place in the area at a time when the authorities planned opening of the Ghulam Khan border crossing with Afghanistan for bilateral trade on Monday. The border crossing has been lying closed for a long time due to security concerns.

Clashes also took place between security forces and militants in Mirali subdivision. Officials said the fighting occurred in Inayat Kot, Salam Kot and Khushali areas in which two terrorists were killed.

They said two soldiers, identified as Mohammad Sharif and Zaheer, were injured in these clashes.
