Capital's robbed citizens pin hopes at new interior minister, ICT police chief.

ISLAMABAD -- The victims of armed robberies in Islamabad have pinned renewed hopes at new Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and newly appointed Islamabad Police chief, who had otherwise despaired for recovery of their hard-earned money.

In multiple incidents happened just during last few months, the armed robbers had deprived citizens of federal capital of millions of rupees, on their way from banks.

Despite availability of footages and other identifiable material, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police failed to make any breakthrough owing to inefficiency or blithe lack of concern by the police authorities.

Police had arrested a man claiming him to be a main member of gang involved in bank-related robberies, but he died in police custody.

'The death of only arrested man in custody raises doubts. It has pushed the investigation back to square one. In this case, we cannot rule out a plot to conceal facts or faces,' said senior reporter journalist Ishtiaq Ahmed who was robbed of Rs 0.8 million at sector I-8/1 in September after withdrawing the money from a bank.

Following the protest by journalist community, former Inspector General of Police (IGP)Amir Zulfiqar had assured arrest of culprits within 48 hours but failed to keep his words.
