Cantt board takes away tyres of illegally-parked vehicles.

PESHAWAR -- The cantonment board authorities here adopted a novel way to sensitise drivers and car owners to parking rules and penalise them for illegal parking by removing wheel nuts and taking away wheels leaving the cars on bricks.

The operation was carried around the State Life Insurance Corporation Limited's building housing offices of banks and other financial institutions.

The board's law-enforcement team not only took away the car wheels but also deflated the tyres of over dozen vehicles in the vicinity.

The 'sensitisation and awareness operation' was carried out in the residential area adjacent to the high-rise building on the Mall.

The people used to park vehicles in streets of the residential area adjacent to the State Life Insurance Corporation Limited's building due to the unavailability of parking facilities.

The board also fixed no-parking signboard in the vicinity to discourage unauthorised parking.

The SLICL officials said they did not have enough space to allow owners to park vehicles in the underground portion of and outside the building.

Naveed Khan, who led the law-enforcement team of the board, defended the action and said the Cantonment Board Act allowed the board to take off wheel nuts or take away or deflate tyres of the illegally-parked vehicles.
