Cane price: farmers convey concerns to Tareen, Langrial.

RAHIM YAR KHAN -- A team of local farmers met Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Jahangir Khan Tareen and Punjab Agriculture Minister Malik Nouman Langrial who visited the city on Monday and conveyed their concerns regarding low sugarcane price.

Talking to Dawn, farmer leaders Chaudhary Yasin and Jamil Nasir said the told Tareen and the minister that increase of just Rs 10 per 40kg in cane price was not more than a joke. They said according to government's cane policy the sugarcane rate should be Rs 392 per maund at the ratio of 9pc.

They claimed that the minister admitted that the agriculture department had failed to protect farmers' rights but assured them that the government of Punjab would make mill owners pay official support price.

Langrial's spokesman Shahid Qadir told Dawn that Langrial was himself a farmer and would always stand by farmers. He said that the minister would address all problems of farmers.
