MUZAFFARGARH -- An anticanal water theft campaign has beenlaunchedinMuzaffargarhas irrigation teams have got registered cases against those who fitted pipes in canals and distributaries.

For many years, many local farmers and landowners have been stealing water from canals and water channels through pipes and water pumps.

Irrigation Executive Engineer Malik Zain told reporters that water thieves had fitted pipes and later linked them with mogas. He said he received many calls from local politicians to stop the operation and he was also threatenedwith consequences. He said he sent a letter to the local police station for registration of cases.
