Call to declare Baffa-Pakhal calamity-hit tehsil.

MANSEHRA -- The growers have demanded of the government to declare Baffa-Pakhal a calamity-hit tehsil following the large-scale destruction of standing crops by a violent storm.

'Our ripe wheat, cauliflower, tomato and potato crops were completely destroyed by the strong winds and hailstorm, so they're unable to pay landowners the rent of fields acquired on the yearly and half yearly basis,' Abdul Razzaq reporters in Baffa area on Wednesday.

Mr Razzaq said the growers wanted the government to declare the district, especially Baffa-Pakhal tehsil, a calamity hit area to help them manage things.

Mohammad Jawad said if Baffa-Pakhal was declared a calamity-hit area, the growers could avail themselves of interest-free loans for growing crops.

He said the coronavirus-induced lockdown had already hit growers hard.
