Buzdar gets pre-arrest bail in assets case.

LAHORE -- An accountability court on Saturday granted interim pre-arrest bail to former chief minister Usman Buzdar in an inquiry initiated against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on charges of accumulating assets beyond means.

Buzdar along with his counsel Barrister Momim Malik appeared before the court to seek interim bail.

The counsel argued that the NAB initiated the inquiry against the petitioner by misusing its authority. He said the NAB issued no independent call-up notice to the petitioner, however, submitted its comments before a Lahore High Court Multan bench disclosed that an anonymous complaint was received in August 2022 against the petitioner.

He said the bureau claimed that the complaint alleged that the petitioner accumulated assets beyond known sources of income by misuse of authority.

He pointed out that the reply filed by the NAB before the high court revealed that an executive board meeting of the bureau recommended the impugned inquiry.
