Businessmen demand end to FBR raids at units.

GUJRAT -- The local business community demands the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stop raids at industrial units in Gujrat and transfer it's commissioner out of the region.

The representatives of various trade and industry organisations of Gujrat have presented a charter of demands, comprising eight points at a grand convention organised by the joint action committee (JAC) at the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GtCCI) on Monday.

The committee is mainly comprised of representatives of the GtCCI, electric fans, pottery, furniture and other industrial associations as well as the traders' bodies, private schools, brick kilns and marriage halls.

The speakers in the convention criticised the harsh policy of raids at business places in the recent weeks, affecting, according to their claims, the business activities in already critical economic conditions.

According to a charter of demands, which was also unanimously approved by the participants in the convention, inclusion of electric fan industry into the 3rd schedule of sales tax should be withdrawn and the concessions given to the traders...
