BUDGET 2022-23: Rs326.86bn to be spent on education in next fiscal year.

KARACHI -- Stressing the importance of education as a main priority for the Sindh government, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that they are committed and very serious towards creating betterment for school education in Sindh.

Presenting Sindh's education budget for financial year 2022-23 on Tuesday, the chief minister said that their aim was improving access to equitable, inclusive and quality education for all.

School education

The education sector is being given a total allocation of Rs326.86 billion in the next financial year.

The non-development budget has been enhanced from Rs268.41bn of 2021-22 to Rs292.639bn for the next financial year while Rs34.22bn has been earmarked as the development budget for the School Education Department for the next financial year of 2022-23.

Seven districts to get university, sub-campuses

While touching on some major achievements during the current fiscal year, he mentioned some major schemes proposed for the next financial year. These include construction, renovation of school buildings, building of labs, upgradation, scholarship programmes, etc.

College education

The allocation for college education is also increased in non-development budget from Rs22.860bn for 2021-22 to Rs26.768bn in the next financial year of 2022-23.

The College Education Department has initiated various development schemes for the establishment of 16 new degree colleges in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sanghar, Umerkot along with three districts of Karachi - Korangi, Malir and District West.

In addition, six new cadet colleges are being established in districts of Tharparkar, Dadu, Larkana, Khairpur, Kashmore and Badin.

The College Education Department has established digital libraries in 48 colleges and it will establish 10 more such libraries during the next financial year. A centralised biometric attendance system has been introduced (CBAS) for both teaching and non-teaching staff and it is monitored on daily basis by the IT cell.
