Book of short stories on social injustice launched.

ISLAMABAD -- A book of short stories about the challenges of social injustice and gender inequality titled Katabon ke Darmian and authored by Dr Humaira Ashfaq was launched on Monday.

The launch was organised by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).

Renowned poet Kishwar Naheed said at the event that because of a lack of priorities and positive sentiments for one another, as well as egotism, society is being pushed towards injustice, inequality, discrimination and prejudice.

She said that to bring positive change in society people will have to give up their arrogance and show empathy to one another, and allow educated people to lead society from the front.

Discussing the book, she said: 'Dr Humaira writes the stories from the point of view of a third person to avoid biases and exaggeration, which can be observed in her fiction such as Bhagbhari and Ghuggo Ghory.'

She added that the messages in her work show that Dr Ashfaq has clear thoughts and conviction to bring positive change in society.

Hameed Shahid, a short story writer and critic, said every story in the book had a different message that highlighted various perspectives in society.

He said Duniya Ab Bhi Khoobsorat Hyand Bhagbhari are stories of hope, adding that the author has tried to present social realities from the perspective of women.
