Body set up to resolve dispute between Dir villagers.

UPPER DIR -- A 16-member committee has been constituted comprising elders to resolve the dispute over the ownership of forests and land of a tourist spot between two villages of Wari tehsil.

It merits a mention here that two persons were killed and as many injured when a fight erupted between the residents of Badalai village of Nehag Darra and Metrora village of Karo Darra on Friday.

Residents of Badalai village had blocked the Dir-Peshawar Road in Wari, demanding of the deputy commissioner and the district police officer to resolve the dis-pute according to the agreements struck in 1978.

MPA from PK-11 Sahibzada Sanaullah and DFO Mian Naseeb Jan, while speaking at a press briefing in Wari the other day, had said that a 16-member committee had been formed in consultation with both the sides to help resolve the dispute.

The DPO said the decades-long dispute had so far claimed over 160 lives, adding he would himself oversee the progress of the committee.

Mr Naseeb said the committee would go through the previous agreements struck between the district administrations and the elders from time to time. The committee members would also examine the dispute site and collectfacts from the people and witnesses of the old agreements.

The DPO said he had deployed 200 cops who would vacate trenches from local people, and restore peace to the area. He said both the sides had assured that they would accept the decisions of the committee. He said if any...
